The Days We Stayed Apart

The Days We Stayed Apart

It has been a few years now since we were caught up in the worldwide Covid pandemic, which was said to be from March, 2020, to May, 2023 (when it was said the public health emergency ended).  I'd like us to do some reflecting on that time today.

You might reflect on the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic—the fear, the isolation, the masks, the silence of empty streets, and the separation from loved family and friends. Recall the closed schools and workplaces, the anxious waiting for vaccines, the sadness for those who fell ill or passed away. What do you remember most vividly from those uncertain times? What images stand out as you reflect on that time?  Who were the heroes? The villains?

Your poem might hold space for grief, fear, hopelessness, and loss, but your poem also might consider what small lights glowed in the darkness or rose above the sadness. Did you discover unexpected stillness, connection through distance, gratitude, resilience, or moments of quiet beauty?

What did those days teach you?

What does your heart still carry from that time?

Use imagery, memory, and emotion to explore the weight, wisdom, and resilience of that shared global experience.

If you are stuck, simply think "Time of Covid," and see where your mind goes.

After you have written your poem, link it using Mr. Linky below.  Remember to visit the links of others who write.  Mr. Linky will be open until Sunday at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

  1. Greetings, Friends! I think the Time of Covid will always be a memorable time in our lives. Sometimes it feels to me that this Time was only yesterday, and at other times it seems like it was SO VERY long ago. I will be interested to find out what comes to your mind poetically when you think about that period of time.

  2. It was interesting to think back about those times. We had good leadership in Canada and, while I was afraid of the virus and horrified at the deaths occurring everywhere, I had trust in our leadership.

  3. Thanks Mary for the prompt. It was a terrifying time yet it was good to see humanity working together to save every life.

    1. Yes, people from various countries worked together to develop and provide vaccines and to provide advice on how to be safe. That was a good thing.
