Hi Friends,
We all know these are difficult days. Wars. Politics. Climate Change. Anti-this. Anti-that. Etc. So much to be concerned about in our world today. I was thinking, when I composed this post that, despite all, there are things that are good, positive, beautiful in our midst. Things we Love. People we Love. So today, just today, let's focus on that.
First of all, I would like you to listen to this song "I Love" by Tom T. Hall, who was an American country music singer-songwriter. In fact, he composed songs for dozens of country music singers such as Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings, in addition to writing songs for himself. If you take a look at a list of songs he has written, you will find many familiar hits from times gone by.
His song "I Love" was released in 1973 and sung by him. It was his most successful single.
Here are some of the lyrics:
I love little baby ducks, old pick-up trucks
Slow movin' trains and rain
I love little country streams, sleep without dreams
Sunday school in May and hay
and I love you too
I love leaves in the wind, pictures of my friends
Birds of the world and squirrels
I love coffee in a cup, little fuzzy pups
Bourbon in a glass and grass
And I love you too
You can "google" the entire song of you would like all of the words.
So, poets, take it from there. What do YOU love? Write a poem about these things. Feel free to write in the style of Tom T. Hall if you wish. That is what I think I did. Smiles. (RhymeZone is your friend.) If you don't want to write in his style, write in your own. But tell us: What do YOU love?
The prompt will close Sunday at 8 P.M. Eastern.
Oh - and lest I forget, after you share, please visit other poets. It is part of the fun, I think: Writing a poem and seeing what other people have written. I don't know about you, but I am always impressed by the variety of poems we all come up with for each prompt.
