HOW'S THE WEATHER?

What's going on with you, friends, since last we met? It is hard not to notice the extreme weather events happening all over the world. In Canada, as in so many places around the world, we have been experiencing extended drought, (even in the rainforest where I live), wildfires across the country and the far north, unseasonal storms and tornadoes, and torrential rains in some places, causing major flooding and collapse of infrastructure. Unusual summer weather (an understatement.)

For your prompt, let us know what’s going on in your corner of the world in terms of WEATHER.

*Have you experienced any unusual or extreme weather events?
*Has the weather changed in the last few years?
*What has been happening weather-wise that has caught your attention?
*You might describe a single storm or event that was exceptional.
*Or describe what it's like outside right now.
*You could give us an over-all look at your local weather picture.
*Or you might take a larger look at climate activity globally.

Here is a poem for inspiration:

THE LAST SONG
by Joy Harjo

how can you stand it
he said
the hot Oklahoma summers
where you were born
this humid thick air
is choking me
and i want to go back
to New Mexico

it is the only way
i know how to breathe
an ancient chant
that my mother knew
came out of a history
woven from wet tall grass
in her womb
and i know no other way
than to surround my voice
with the summer songs of crickets
in this moist south night air

oklahoma will be the last song
i’ll ever sing

Please link one poem that is your response to the material of this prompt.  Please take some time to visit other links, so we build a real community here. I am so happy to be writing with you again.

  1. Hello, friends. It is a very welcome rainy day here on the West Coast of Canada, after our long drought. All the growing things are relieved, I am sure. It was such a lovely welcome you gave us last week. We are still smiling. I'm looking forward to writing with you through fall and winter and sharing lots of wonderful writing.

    1. So blessed you are Sherry! We spent our rainy season without rain. Our souls have dried up. Sigh.

    2. It is raining lightly, not the hard rain we need to put out the fires. But any moisture is welcome right now. I can feel the heat you are experiencing in your poem. May the monsoons come - but not flood.

  2. Greetings, Everyone! We have a sunny, but cool day today. I can feel we are heading into fall. Look forward to writing with you whatever season!

  3. It is fall here too, my plants are telling me. Fall is so welcome after all the heat and wildfires.

  4. Is the rain keeping poets away? Viewed from the train, the cumulus clouds sit low and dark and heavy, but the rain remains a light mist. Dark tunnels, wide Hudson River. I change trains in NY, then on to Philadelphia. Only 5 hours by train, and I can write too. So glad I didn't drive. Hugs!

    1. Thanks for your poem, Pearl. With the news today, I feel as gobsmacked as you describe in your poem - 6000 dead in Libya from flooding just today. So many places suffering.

  22. I can't believe I missed the prompt! I'm so disappointed as I had a poem about weather that would have been an ideal share. I promise I will keep my eyes open this week - next week I'm visiting my sister and will be busy - I haven't seen her for two years.

  23. The time limit of only from Wednesdays to Sundays makes it hard as I really do not write or do anything really on deadline. But now that I know about the time limit I will respond when I feel moved to do so by the deadline.
