Contradictions

                     SOURCE

In exams or in class works we used to get questions like, “Compare and contrast Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley as foils”. We were being made aware of the contradictions in life. We knew that simultaneous existence of opposing situations, ideas or even personalities are a fundamental aspect of human experience. All the positive aspects of life and their concurrent sadness are a part of life.

How do you view this complexity of life? May be as a learning experience?

We see environmentalists consistently using fossil fuel, single-use plastics. A society that promotes equality has no say towards the disparities in wealth and opportunity within its core. A politician representing the people unscrupulously is acting against their interests. And so on.

Contradictions are a plenty. We find them in writing, in personal life, in Nature, in philosophy, in art, in science. And in our daily interactions we are quite habituated to see the inconsistency between someone’s attitude and actual behavior.

For inspiration here is a poem exploring the theme of seeming contradictions:

Dialectics

by Vinicius de Moraes

It is clear that life is good
And happiness, the only indescribable emotion
It is clear that I find you beautiful
In you I praise the love of simple things
It is clear that I love you
And I have everything to be happy

But it happens that I am sad.

Write your poem exploring the theme in your own way.
