The Night Sky

Wikimedia Commons

Today our theme is The Night Sky. So get ready to be star struck. It’s amazing to be in sync with the stars that you know. We will wait for your starry / dark words.

What about a stormy night sky?

In pollution free places the night sky makes it easier to connect with its vastness and infinity and makes you aware of the bigger picture. What do you say?

How is the night sky seen through light pollution? What is your experience?

You might also want to write about our moon or any other moon of any planet so that they don’t feel left out.

Ekphrastic poetry would be quite interesting too. So if you wish you might write on one of the paintings from the following list or any other of your own choice :

Flight Into Egypt by Adam Elsheimer (1609)

The Meteor of 1860 by Frederic Edwin Church

Starry Night Over the Rhone by Vincent Van Gogh

Rainy Midnight by Childe Hassam (Wikimedia Commons)

Poems for your inspiration :

Nightpiece

By James Joyce

Gaunt in gloom,
The pale stars their torches,
Enshrouded, wave.
Ghostfires from heaven's far verges faint illume,
Arches on soaring arches,
Night's sindark nave

.

Seraphim,
The lost hosts awaken
To service till
In moonless gloom each lapses muted, dim,
Raised when she has and shaken

Her thurible.

And long and loud,
To night's nave upsoaring,
A starknell tolls
As the bleak incense surges, cloud on cloud,
Voidward from the adoring
Waste of souls.

The lamp Once Out

By Natsume Soseki

The lamp once out
Cool stars enter
The window frame.

    2. Dora,
Unfortunately I am still unable to leave my comment at your poetry link.
I do hope you will find it here.
Dora, The Flight from the Night, is perfect description for your poem. Based upon that painting by Elsheimer, I was absorbed into the scene of your poetic description. A perfect ekphrastic combination. I like the idea of a heavenly connection in the night sky. It seems like the perfect setting for both personal and religious reflection, during those hours. A magnificent poem....
