It’s
a no prompt day again, friends. Please write a poem of your choice. You might
also post an old one.
15th
August, our Independence Day is around the corner. It’s good to see how people
come together to celebrate the occasion with the fervor of freedom. My country
is now in a mood of celebration. I pray for happiness and peace all around the
world.
Let
me celebrate the occasion in advance with this poem of Rabindranath Tagore who
passed away six years before our country gained independence:
Gitanjali 35
(Where
the Mind Is Without Fear)
Where
the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where
knowledge is free;
Where
the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where
words come out from the depth of truth;
Where
tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where
the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of
dead habit;
Where
the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action
Into
that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Sumana, the Tagore prayer/poem is more relevant than ever. Yes, let all copuntries awaken. I am glad yours is celebrating. Here in BC, we are seeing people coming together to help each other as the wildfires take their homes and small towns. May we all awaken to the climate crisis, which is happening whether we believe in it or not.
ReplyDeleteIn a crisis when everyone comes together it instills hope everywhere, Sherry. Wildfire is in your part and here in India there's devastating flood in some of our States. May everyone everywhere remain safe. And of course thanks for your beautiful poem.
