The Stories We Wear

 Choose a head covering—a worn baseball cap, a silk scarf, a headband, a wool beanie pulled low, a wide-brimmed hat casting shadows, or any other piece that sits on the head.

Write a poem that explores what this covering holds or hides or means to you. Consider:

The physical weight and texture: What does it look like? How does it feel against skin, hair, or scalp? Does it press down or rest lightly?

The memories it carries: Was it yours originally?  Why did you choose it?  Or if it was not yours originally, who wore it before? What moments has it witnessed?  What emotions do you feel about this hat?

What it conceals or reveals: Does it hide messy hair, protect from sun, or mask emotions? Does it make a statement or help one disappear?

Its journey: Where has it traveled? What weather has it weathered? How has it aged or changed?

If the questions don't resonate, share anything else about your chosen head covering.  Or write first-person poem from it's point of view. Please share a photo of it, if it is possible.
