March of Time

Wikipedia

Nothing is moving faster than the wings of this year 2024. We are almost at the tail end of the year now. Unbelievable!

There’s a fleeting feeling all around us. Anyone can hear the sound of the passage of time in everything: the clocks ticking; mirrors speaking; seasons marching. Being fixed to a time frame and watching this fast pace of life we may wonder if we have time enough.

Would we ever pause or slow down a bit? How to do that? Poet says, “Let your life lightly dance on the edges of Time / like dew on the tip of a leaf.”

March of Time is today’s theme. Capture Time’s gait in your lines. You might be the observer or it might be Time itself who has a fixed gaze on you and your surroundings.

A few poems to share with you :

Be Drunk

by Charles Baudelaire

Corona

by Paul Celan

AsI Walked Out One Evening

by W.H. Auden

    2. I enjoy every part and parcel of this poem, and especially "sounds divine / I like how your hair turns silver / And your world grows bigger / Like you are not afraid any more . . . " May it be so!

    2. Thanks Susan. "But on what? Wine, poetry or virtue, as you wish. But be drunk." And I love this line of Baudelaire's poem.

  4. Thank you for such a flexible prompt, Sumana. I was tempted to go with a seasonal poem, but I've written and read a lot of them lately. Instead I wrote about measuring time with a morning ritual.

    1. The fourth line is especially interesting as it captures the poet's feelings. Elfje is an interesting poetic form. Thank you.

    2. It's tough to get out what wants to be said in so few words but that line did seem to capture what I was going for. Thanks for reading. 🙏
